The boss of the Public Ministry (MP), Thelma Aldana, and the director of the CICIG, Iván Velásquez, explained that the Morales family is linked to some event allocations, along with the General Property Registry, with a value over Q2,000.
When Sammy Morales, brother of Jimmy Morales, arrived to court he said that he will colaborate with justice. "Truth will set us free", he said.
Morales Marroquín, 23 years old, had an arrest warrant against him, but they couldn't arrest him since he was inside the Presidential Palace, and according to the Public Prosecutor, Thelma Aldana, la Presidential Palace is immune, according to the law.
At night, the judge sixth, Silvia de León, remanded in custody to the Morales because of fraud crime and ruled the lack of evidence of money laundering that the Public Ministry (MP) had ordered for the President's brother. Both were sent to prison.
Both are linked to 3 public events, in which 2 of them were never completed, where they helped the ex-girlfriend's of the President's son, Mario Estuardo Orellana López, achieve the allocations, making an "illegal favor" so that he, according to the initial investigation, received some economic benefits.
The first allocation was a breakfast for 564 people, with a total value of Q90 thousand, the son of Jimmy Morales filed 3 quotes -2 of them were fake, made under the Companies name JM3 and "Eventos y Spectáculos", both nonexistent- and one under the Company name "Fulanos y Menganos S.A. o Carnes y Ensalda", winner of the public event.
The payment for this service was given to Mario Estuardo Orellana López, although the breakfast never took place.
In the second allocation event, it was requested to have food for 40 people during 3 days due to the presentation of the Annual Operational Plan of the RGP, the Companies "Plus Espectáculos y Promociones" and "Hotel Barceló", presented their quotes, the first Company obtained the "job", in which the legal representative is the President's brother.
The value of this allocation was for Q89,975, also was paid to Orellana López, although the event never took place, and the President's son was the one who presented his uncle´s quote.
Lastly, the General Property Registry hired "Plus Espectáculos y Promociones" for the total amount of Q89,958 to make 564 Gift Baskets for the employees, amount that was charged by the father´s ex-girlfriend of José Manual Morales.
Although this event did take place, it wasn't the Company that was hired, it was done Abdy Sussely Estrada, wife of Orellana, and she will also have an arrest warrant because of her participation in this event -the same for the daughter.
The CICIG´s commissioner explained that neither the President's brother or son received any money from these events, but they did make the favor -which is considered a crime.
